The Durex Network Research Unit (DNRU) was established in 2005. The Unit is composed of a team of associated experts in the areas of biostatistics, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, youth health and sexuality.
The aim of the DNRU is to improve scientific understanding in :
- Cultural norms, population characteristics, and behavioural factors that influence adverse sexual health outcomes around the world
- The impact of sexual education, policies and interventions in reducing adverse sexual health outcomes and improving preventive efforts
Each year, the DNRU publishes an analysis report (The Face of Global Sex) on various sexual education and health topics. The focus for the first report was variables associated with unprotected sex, while the second report explored specific behavioral and population characteristics that influence contraception use at first sex.
The Face of Global Sex reports have provoked debate in the international media and scientific forums about the importance of developing evidence-based interventions. These results have also been published by Foreign Policy magazine, the Global Business Coalition, and the European Journal of Contraception and Reproductive Healthcare. The results have also been presented at major international conferences in the areas of HIV/AIDS, reproductive healthcare, and sexual health.
