H Alliance

The H Alliance is an international consortium that includes NGOs, United Nations agencies, and the private sector to promote gender equality among youth through programmes questioning non-equitable male Youngsters from Santa Martaroles.

Program H was developed by Instituto Promundo and its partner organisations with support from the Pan American Health Organisation, IPPF/WHR, John Snow Brasil and the Durex Network.Program H stimulates young men to question traditional norms associated with masculinity and promotes both discussion and reflection about the implications of traditional masculinity as well as the advantages of gender equitable behaviours, such as better care for their own health. The programme was created and then run in several parts of Brazil and subsequently replicated throughout the world.

It uses educational workshops, lifestyle campaigns, innovative approaches to attract young men to health facilities and a culturally sensitive impact evaluation methodology.

Today, an international alliance of partners, coordinated by Instituto Promundo, makes decisions regarding future actions of the programme as well as new programmes Program M (promoting young women’s health and empowerment) and Program D (an initiative to reduce homophobia and to promote respect for sexual diversity among young people in various regions of the world).
